Fashion News:

Commes des Garçons will be the protaginist of the iconic annual show at Metropolitan Museum of Art

Commes des Garçons and the work of the brand’s founder Rei Kawakubo will be the subject of the next show at New York’s Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The exhibition will mark only the second time that the Costume Institute has honoured a living designer, the first being a 1983 exhibition dedicated to the work of Yves Saint Laurent.

Kawakubo is truly worthy though after a decades long career creating conceptual fashion whilst revolutionising the world of fashion retail through her Dover Street Market stores.

The opening of the exhibition will be preceded by the Met Gala, when the world’s most famous fashionistas will be invited to a charity ball where they are encouraged to dress to the theme of the exhibition. The Commes des Garçons show will replace the Manus X Machine exhibition that is currently on display and celebrates the futuristic side of fashion.
