Sylvio Giardina, HC#03 “Lovers” Haute Couture FW 2018-19

Eight years after the foundation of the brand which achieved success with the creation of a prêt-à-porter and a jewelry line, Sylvio Giardina returns to his first passion, Haute Couture, to present “HC #03 - Lovers” on the catwalks of this new edition of Altaroma. The new “Lovers” collection pays tribute to the fundamental values of Haute Couture playing on the suggestion of a topic essential to anyone: Love, an almost symbiotic relationship which distinguished the lives of legendary figures of our era such as Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, Picasso and Dora Maar, Pier Paolo Pasolini and the divine Callas. The desire of being unique in the eyes of the beloved adds further allure to the grand-soirée creations featured on the catwalk, expression of that connection between sartorial craftsmanship and creative whim. For the new season, the maison created dresses distinguished by floating, yet geometric, silhouettes always true to classic lines. The collection reinterprets the Haute Couture classics such as the sac dress and the balloon jacket and sculptural dresses made with stiff fabrics. The fabric surface – taffeta, chiffon, triple organza, duchesse and tulle, some designed by the brand’s creative director – are enlivened through plissé or ruches or by using in a decorative guise bows recurring on different outfits while flounces, drapes and a meticulous attention to proportions and cuts convey a tridimensional emphasis to the silhouette. On the catwalk, the basic blend of black and white is completed at times by the intense shades of petrol green and lilac, others by pale pastel hues up to the final wedding gown, in honor of the emblematic fashion shows of last century’s grand haute couture, which often crowned, precisely with the robe de mariée, a style narration built around the most authentic essence of femininity. After graduating from the Accademia di Costume e di Moda, Rome’s renowned fashion institute, he began to work for the maison Fernanda Gattinoni, where, side by side with the legendary couturier, he learnt how to plan and design a Haute Couture collection. Sylvio was one of the founders of the Grimaldi Giardina brand and 12 years later he embarked upon a new fashion adventure with his eponymous brand. Tailoring, tradition, innovation, a never-ending and versatile research/experimentation and a strategy of lines in which the matter elements – textures, structures and embellishments – blend, merge and overlap. These are the brand’s foundations, prompting an open dialogue and communication with visual arts – another leitmotiv which distinguishes the brand’s collections. Research focuses on celebrating the feminine silhouette and its shapes in a sartorial-chic guise, as much as on designing unusual and edgy styles conveying a different elegance, which blends the exclusivity, details and tailoring of haute couture with the wearability of prêt-a-porter, thus creating a demicouture product. For Sylvio Giardina, art is the inspiration and fashion is the means; they are not separate entities, but they complement each other; they constantly influence each other, thus blurring their boundaries. Made-in-Italy stands for a beautiful, well-done product, a kind of alchemy created by the flair of design and the excellence of craftsmanship, which is often the result of artisanal skills only found in Italy.
