Unfolding inside seven rooms of the Palatine Gallery in Pitti Palace, the Gucci Cruise 2018 collection by Alessandro Michele was woven with a Renaissance influence.
Gowns with crystals, pearls or bows worn with elaborate hand bracelets. Lapels on men’s brocade suits pinned with three dimensional brooches of faces from Greek mythology: Silenus, the companion of Dionysus and Hercules, the son of Zeus. A new way of writing the House name—Guccy, Guccify and Guccification—found by Alessandro Michele through tags on Instagram, appearing on ready-to-wear and bags. Accessories crafted in retro shapes featured GG and butterfly hardware, and gold laurel crowns—evoking the goddesses of old Hollywood—were carried by hand or circled the models heads.
